VHF RADIO COURSE

THE GMDSS SHORT RANGE CERTIFICATE

THE GMDSS SHORT RANGE CERTIFICATE (SRC) IS THE  QUALIFICATION REQUIRED TO OPERATE DSC MARINE VHF RADIO

TO GAIN THIS QUALIFICATION REQUIRES A ONE DAY COURSE  WHICH INCLUDES THE ASSESSMENT

THE GLOBAL MARITIME DISTRESS & SAFETY SYSTEM (GMDSS) BECAME OPERATIONAL ON 1ST FEBRUARY 1999. PRIVATE MOTOR & SAIL YACHTS ARE STILL CLASSED AS 'VOLUNTARY FITS'.

HOWEVER WITH NEW DIGITAL SELECTIVE CALLING (DSC) SYSTEM NOW FULLY OPERATIONAL, SMALL CRAFT USERS ARE INCREASINGLY  FITTING THE NEW EQUIPMENT TO ENSURE THEY HAVE FULL DISTRESS COMMUNICATION CAPABILITIES

THE ONE DAY COURSE COVERS THE USE OF THE NEW DSC CONTROLLER PLUS ROUTINE, SAFETY, URGENCY & DISTRESS COMMUNICATIONS. ALSO COVERED ARE NAVTEX, SARTs & EPIRBs.

 

 

NOTES FOR THOSE ATTENDING VHF COURSES:

ALL CANDIDATES MUST BRING A PASSPORT STYLE PHOTO WITH THEM 

A LICENCE ISSUE FEE  IS PAYABLE TO THE RYA . THIS IS PAID ON ATTENDING THE COURSE
